Every year over 3,000 children are born with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) and of these infants many do not live to celebrate their first birthday. Every second of each day is a constant struggle for these little ones to keep their hearts beating and should they survive infancy then they are condemned to a life on the side-lines, unable to join their friends to play, incapable of the slightest form of exertion whilst maintaining a strict and restrictive diet and enduring frequent medication and visits to the doctor. CHD has been reported to be the primary cause of infant deaths in Sri Lanka. However, with the proper resources the number of deaths caused by CHD can be significantly reduced.

19 September 2017 saw leading distribution network, DSL Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd, announce their participation in the Little Hearts project, which aims to build a Cardiac and Critical Care Complex at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital.

In a press release the company stated that the Cardiac and Critical Care Complex will be a ten-storey wing built on the grounds of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital in Colombo. The complex will feature specialized cardiac operating theatres, a significantly increased number of medical and neonatal ICU beds as well as facilities for research and staff training.
