SL women wrestlers finish pointless

CT Sports: Two Sri Lanka Women wrestlers had a woeful day going down to their opponents yesterday in the fifth Asian Indoor Athletic and Martial Arts Games continued at Olympic Village in Ashgabat Turkmenistan.

Shamika Madushani was beaten by VU Thi Hang from Vietnam 1-0 while Deepika Weerabahu was defeated by a Kazakhstan Wrestler 2-0.

The entire team of Sri Lankan wrestlers (Men and Women) has lost and the plight was none were able to score a single point in their respective matches. Ministry of Sports spent millions of rupees to send them to India for training a few months prior to the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship and Asian Indoor Athletic and Martial Arts Games.

The continental record in the women's 90kg weight class was broken in weight lifting by 18-year-old Eileen Cikamatana (FJI) on her way to earning the first Gold medal for one of the nations from Oceania. The Fijian lifted a combined weight of 253kg in the Snatch, Clean and Jerk to earn an Ashgabat 2017 title.

China continued their dominance on the third day of short course swimming action at the Aquatic Centre, claiming four Gold medals and setting three new Games records. Wang Peng in the men's 50m Butterfly, Sun Meichen in the women's 200m Freestyle and the women's 4x50m Freestyle Relay team were all able to set Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games-best times for the Chinese squad.
