Disappearance of 11 Tamil youth Ex-Navy spokesman further remanded

Former Navy Spokesman Commodore D.K.P. Dassanayake was further remanded until 9 October over the disappearance of 11 individuals in 2008.

Speaking to Ceylon Today, the Police Media Unit said, that Dassanayake had been arrested by......the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on 12 July, in connection with the abduction and enforced disappearance of 11 Tamil youth in 2008.

Dassanayake, along with Lieutenant Commander Sampath Munasighe, Lieutenant Sampath Hettiarachchi and four other Navy personnel, suspected to be involved in this case were arrested earlier this year.

Investigations conducted by the CID have revealed that the reason for these kidnappings was monetary gain. While several places in Chaitya Road in Trincomalee were identified as the areas in which the victims were held, the current whereabouts of the victims are unknown. The CID is conducting further investigations.
