Thusitha Halloluwa, one time close ally of SLFP General Secretary and Minister of Agriculture Duminda Dissanayake, has resigned from his position as the Chairman of Colombo Commercial Fertilizer Company (CCFC) with effect from yesterday.

Writing a letter to Dissanayake, as the Colombo Commercial Fertilizer Company is under his Ministry, he said that he was under tremendous pressure from various sections, which made it difficult for his to carry out his duties.

Halloluwa added that he was asked to violate the tender procedure on many occasions and there was tremendous pressure to use resources of the Colombo Commercial Fertilizer Company for political reasons.

"I was asked to pay over Rs 1.5 million as the cost of breakfast for an initiative carried out by the Food Promotions Board, which is under the Ministry of Agriculture. I rejected this suggestion along with three other members of the Board of Directors. Even Lalith Ambanwela, who is a popular and respected auditor attached to the Ministry of agriculture said that such a payment would be violation of procedure. Then you intervened personally to make me pay the bill and still I rejected it," he said.

Halloluwa added that after Dissanayake became the Minister of Agriculture he has come under the influence of elements that have become a bane to the good governance administration. "I came to your house several times to talk you out of this wrong path you are taking. But you insist on going down that path. Thus I feel the best for me is to resign," he said. Halloluwa, who has been a staunch SLFPer, is said to have been behind Dissanayake leaving the Mahinda Rajapaksa administration.
