Gateway athlete Sadeepa Henderson commenced her triple gold journey by leaping a distance of 5.66m in the under 16 girls' long jump to seal the event at the All Island School Games started at Diyagama yesterday.

Henderson who had back to back events (long jump after competing in the 100m semi-final), had a personal best leap to seal the gold medal. She also eyes the 100m and 200m gold medals, both of which she won at the John Tarbet and Junior National Championship earlier this year.

A rain hampered day saw several events postponed and four of the finals deferred for today.

In other events of the day, triple jump champion Prasadi Lakshani was beaten into third place, with Sathsara Sandeepani of President's College, Embilipitiya winning with a leap of 12.01m.

A. Rathnayake CC Walala started their gold count with a throwing event - which is not usually one of their pet events - when Shehan Rajapaksha won the under 18 boys' javelin with a throw of 56.20m.
