Shares hit new 11-week high

The Colombo Stock Exchange posted gains for the second consecutive market day on Thursday (12) as the benchmark index crossed 6,600 points reaching a new 11-week high despite foreign selling.

The benchmark All Share Price Index on Thursday (12) gained 0.94 per cent (61.95 points) to close at 6,621.56 points, it's highest since 31 July, while the S&P SL 20 representing the top 20 listed entities gained 1.22 per cent (47.22 points) to close at 3,917.64 points. The day's turnover reached Rs 1.4 billion, lower than Wednesday's (11) turnover of Rs 1.9 billion, with 94 winners against 63 losers.

Foreigners were net sellers on Thursday (11). Net foreign outflow during the day reached Rs 274 million as sales amounted to Rs 647 million as against purchases worth of Rs 373 million.

Nearly 37.3 million shares changed hands on Thursday during 8,401 trades taken place.
The share price of Ceylon Cold Stores gained 5.87 per cent (Rs 52.70) to close at Rs 950 as 22,386 shares changed hands during 51 trades, Sri Lanka Telecom gained 5.72 per cent (Rs 1.70) to close at Rs 31.40 as 31,971 shares changed hands during 56 trades, while the share price of Hatton National Bank gained 2.74 per cent (Rs 7.20) to close at Rs 270 as 397,993 shares changed hands during 127 trades.

However, the share price of Cargills slipped 1.48 per cent (Rs 3) to close at Rs 200 as 12,554 shares changed hands during 15 trades, Chevron Lubricants slipped 2.26 per cent (Rs 2.70) to close at Rs 117 as 44,182 shares changed hands during 196 trades, while the share price of Ceylinco Insurance slipped 1.43 per cent (Rs 20) to close at Rs 1,380 as 580 shares changed hands during 7 trades.
