Investigations have commenced into the suspicious disappearance of three females – a teenage mother and two other teenagers, from the Kolonnawa area, Police said yesterday (17).

Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said the three missing persons have been identified as 19-year-old Malithi Wathsala, the mother of an infant and her sister-in-law 15-year-old Yasanthi Madushani, and a neighbour Charithri Chandrasekeram.

The three missing girls had left their Orugodawatte homes to shop in a nearby boutique and not returned.

However, Police added that after the families of the missing women lodged a complaint with the Wellampitiya Police on Monday (16), the 14-year-old girl – Charithri – had contacted the Malithi's husband yesterday (17) morning and had asked him not to notify the Police of their disappearance.

According to SP Gunasekara, the 14-year-old had said that they were unharmed and safe and not to inform the Police. He further said, however, the Wellampitiya Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
