Inktober brings with it a steady flow of epic artworks each year. Be it a professional artist or one who sketches as a hobby, Inktober is a challenge for anyone to dedicate a few hours of their day in October to create.

Inktober was created by Jake Parker, an illustrator based in Utah, USA. During his 15 years in the industry he has worked on comic books, animated movies and picture books. One of his recent animated movies was Epic (2013).
Inktober was created in 2009 as a challenge to improve Parker's inking skills and to develop positive drawing habits. Since then it has grown into a global endeavour. The rules are simple.

Every October, artists follow a daily prompt, provided by Parker's website, and create an ink drawing based on how they interpret it. The challenge is to do one ink drawing per day for all 31 days of October. Posting it online with the hastags #inktober and #inktober2017 is the final step. Parker's website states however that you are free to "go the half-marathon route and post every other day, or just do the 5K and post once a week. Whatever you decide, just be consistent with it. Inktober is about growing and improving and forming positive habits, so the more you're consistent the better."

Featured here are some of the Inktober entries our local artists created this year. Some followed an official prompt, some simply made a pledge to create an ink drawing based on their own themes and others joined in to create an artwork that wasn't always ink based but was created in the spirit of the season.
