Kosgoda shooting suspect arrested

A suspect wanted in connection with the Kosgoda shooting, in which four persons, including a 13-year-old child, were killed, was arrested late Sunday night (12). The suspect was identified by the wife of a victim and was subsequently arrested in Katuwila.
The suspect, Suwaris Deshan, aged 22, was one of the key persons whom the Police were hunting for.

Late October, four people, including a 13-year-old were killed in multiple shootings carried out by four gunmen in Kosgoda. According to the Police, the gunmen arrived on two motorcycles and had opened fire, killing four individuals in Yodhapitiya, Kurundugampiyasa and the Manik village in Kosgoda around 3.45 a.m. on 29 October.

The main suspect in this quadruple murder, identified as Kosgoda Tharuka, is said to be the same individual involved in the Kalutara Prison bus shooting in which underworld figure Samayan was killed. Police sources told the Ceylon Today that Kosgoda Tharuka, had led four of his underworld goons in the Kosgoda shooting. Several Police teams were deployed inorder to arrest the suspects, including Kosgoda Tharuka, after the Police questioned over 50 individuals regarding the incident.

According to the Police, the shootings took place due to rivalries between two underworld gangs. However, it has not been confirmed that the victims were involved with the underworld.
