Sri Lankan real-estate sector wins in Singapore

The Sri Lankan real-estate sector was recognized at the recently-held PropertyGuru's Asia (Sri Lanka) Awards in Singapore, held in parallel with PropertyGuru's Asia Awards. Overall, 13 awards were presented to the Sri Lankan real estate sector in appreciation of Sri Lanka's fast-growing real estate market. Sri Lankan developers joined the awards programme for the first time in the 12-year history of the award ceremony, while nine local developers made the final shortlist of the PropertyGuru's Asia Awards.

The Blue Ocean Group of Companies was awarded Best Developer (Sri Lanka) and scored three places in the shortlist. It was named Best Developer of the Year for being a sustainability leader and for producing quality projects such as The King Alfred Palace condominium.

Singapore's GuocoLand Ltd emerged the Best Developer of Asia, a category in which the Blue Ocean Group of Companies was also shortlisted for the award.

PropertyGuru, Asia's leading online property company, named the most outstanding developers in condominium, residential and commercial projects in the country at the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards (Sri Lanka) 2017, an exclusive event held on 8 November at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

Another leading nominee, Home Lands Skyline (Pvt) Ltd, also won several awards, including the Best Housing Development (Sri Lanka) for the Green Valley project located in Greater Colombo. Home Lands Skyline was also presented with a special award for its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to help improve the lives of local communities.
Meanwhile, Capital Trust Residencies (Pvt) Ltd was appreciated for its interior design of Capital Trust Residences on Vajira Road, being awarded the Best Condo Development in Colombo, while Shangri-La's One Galle Face was the winner of Best Mixed Use Development project.

The winner of Best Office Development category was the D P Jayasinghe Group of Companies, for its Proposed Showroom and Office Complex at No. 288, Sri Jayawardanapura Mawatha, Kotte.

The entire judging process was supervised by BDO, the world's fifth-largest network of accounting and auditing firms, including actual site inspections and intensive panel deliberations. The domestic awards for Sri Lankan developers were presented as part of the 7th Annual PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards Grand Final, where eight local winners from Sri Lanka collected further recognition for being country winners and part of the 'Best in Asia' class of 2017. Sri Lanka's Deputy High Commissioner in Singapore, O. L. Ameer Ajwad, graced the occasion to support the shortlisted developers from Sri Lanka. Paramount Realty Co-Founder/CEO Dr. Nirmal De Silva, who was Chairman of the judges' panel, said, "It's a fantastic time to join the region's most prestigious industry awards for real estate. I am pleased with the enthusiasm shown by local developers. It exemplifies their commitment to be recognized among the best at a regional level. It's evident that we are reaching world-class standards in the local real estate sphere."

De Silva's colleagues on the domestic judging panel were SB Realtors (Private) Limited Director Stephanie Balendra; Research Intelligence Unit Director and Founding CEO Roshan Madawela; QServe Pte Ltd Managing Director Prof. Chitra Weddikkra; Wolvert Apartments CEO Sanjana Fernando; and JLL Sri Lanka Managing Director Steven Mayes.

PropertyGuru recently announced it would hold a domestic gala dinner and ceremony at the Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo on 12 July 2018. The event will include more than 20 categories representing the best real estate projects of the island.
