With Sri Lankan travellers to Yogyakarta, Indonesia increasing at a rapid pace, the Indonesian Government and Singapore Airlines are currently working on promoting the region to Sri Lankans.

According to Indonesian Embassy in Sri Lanka Counsellor Pinardi Proambododi, Sri Lankan travellers to Yogyakarta, also known as 'Jogja', had increased 150 per cent, from 11,000 travellers in 2015 to 26,000 in 2016.
Highlighting the unique advantages and shopping experiences offered in Yogyakarta, Proambododi said that the Indonesian Government hopes to bring in more Sri Lankans to experience their culture, as well as visit some of the historical religious sites, important to Buddhists as well as Hindus.

Bali, Indonesia is a well-known travel destination with its unique cultural offerings and experiences. However, according to Proambododi, Yogyakarta had as much to offer travellers.

Some of the attractions include Borobudur, Prambanan Temple, the Royal Palace and Mount Merapi. Further, the region is home to several high-end shopping complexes that offer high quality products at reasonable prices.
Singapore Airlines and the Indonesian Government recently hosted a group of Sri Lankan journalists and outbound travel operators to experience Yogyakarta, in a bid to promote the region.

Singapore Airlines General Manager-Sri Lanka Hongyao Hu invited Sri Lankans to experience the unique destination.
With no direct flights from Sri Lanka to Yogyakarta, the easiest way to travel was via Singapore, he said. According to Hongyao Hu, Singapore Airlines was working with several leading outbound tour operators in Sri Lanka to provide unique and affordable tour packages to Yogyakarta.
