Health camp at Wangiyakumbura School

The Past Students' Association of the Bandarawela Central College, in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Office in Sri Lanka and the Lions Club of Wellawatte West, is scheduled to conduct a health camp at the Wangiyakumbura National School on 18 November.

At the camp, they intended to issue over 1,000 new calibrated spectacles received from France, perform cataract operations at the closest hospital while providing sophisticated foldable intraocular lenses, conduct makeshift non-communicable diseases clinics and mobile dental clinics.

Patients with hearing impairments are to be referred to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital (Kalubowila), so that they can obtain free hearing aids.

A team of Japanese volunteers, who are conversant in Sinhala will also participate in this project. The Ambassador of Japan and the Director of JICA will also be in attendance.

In furtherance of the state of education in the area, books worth Rs 400,000 are to be donated to the library of the school while four scholarships will be provided to the schoolchildren. Subsequently, the Travel Uva Photographic Exhibition to raise awareness about the Uva Province and several other activities to enhance the diplomatic event, are also scheduled.
