State Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe and MP Namal Rajapaksa, who are Attorneys-at–law by profession, locked horns in Parliament yesterday (16) when the latter failed to respond to a challenge posed by Senasinghe on the Civil Procedure Code during the second reading stage debate. The verbal brawl continued over various issues including the Bonds Commission, the gem pouch of MP Rajapaksa's great grand aunt and how MP Rajapaksa passed his law exams. State Minister Senasinghe during his speech outlined the incidents of corruption that took place during the times of the Rajapaksa regime.

MP Rajapaksa, raising a point of order, disturbed the Minister and said: You are talking of thieves and thievery. Today the Criminal Investigation Department informed the Bonds Commission that you made 44 telephone calls to Perpetual Treasuries Limited Owner Arjun Aloysius while you were attending the Committee on Public Enterprises investigation on the Bonds scam. What we have before us is also a thief.

State Minister Senasinghe: Everybody knows your record of cheating. How did you get through the law exams? You wrote answers in an air conditioned room separate from other candidates. You cheated at the law exams. Could you tell at least what the first section of the Civil Procedure Code is about? I challenge you to tell the House if possible and prove that you know it. What is the first section of the Civil Procedure Code about?

MP Rajapaksa: You are calling others cheaters. How and why did you get 44 calls from Arjun Aloysius? Tell the House if possible of that.

State Minister Senasinghe: I will rephrase my question. I will make it easier. Tell the House of any section of the Civil Procedure Code.

MP Rajapaksa at this juncture requested the Chair to stop the Minister from slinging mud at other MPs.

Minister Senasinghe: There are some more. You are the one who started this. What about the gem bag of Daisy Achchi? (Daisy Forest alias Daisy Achchi – who shot to fame for receiving a gunney of gem stones from an unknown person, which was spent to purchase a property in Mount Lavinia for her grandnephew, Yoshitha Rajapaksa (brother of MP Namal). I did not talk of how ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen was killed. Thajudeen was killed and the Police and the Judicial Medical Officer reports were forged.

Journalist Lasantha Wickrematunga was killed when he tried to publish an article on the controversial MIG plane deal.
