With the authorities planning on setting up dedicated Courts to hear cases of corruption, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) yesterday (20) called on the Government to take up the Treasury Bonds scam as the first case.

JVP MP Vijitha Herath participating in the Third Reading stage debate on the Budget, commending the move to set up three special trials-at-bar to hear fraud and corruption related cases, challenged the Government to take up the Bonds scam as the first case in one of the said Courts and to set an example of good governance.

He said that the Government need not wait till the Presidential Commission inquiring into the Bonds issue hands over their report, adding that the special Committee on Public Enterprises (CoPE) report is sufficient to initiate legal action against those involved.

He said that it will take another three years if the Government takes the normal procedure to punish the culprits of the Bonds scam and it is hard to expect that justice will be met in that way.
