The Inter-University Students Federation (IUSF) has proposed that students of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) who met the minimum standards prescribed by the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) be recruited to the proposed new medical faculties at the Universities of Wayamba, Sabaragamuwa and Moratuwa and thereby be provided with the opportunity to complete their education. In a letter sent to President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on 20 November, the IUSF also called on the Government to issue the gazette notification pertaining to the complete abolition of SAITM.

Meanwhile, students in medical faculties of State universities reported for academic activities on 20 November following a long boycott owing to the SAITM crisis.
