Killing of Galgamuwe Tusker CID commences investigations

Criminal Investigations Department (CID) following the official transference of the case has commenced investigation into the slaughter of the famous Galgamuwe Tusker or the Galgamuwe Dala Poottuwa.

Police stated that investigations into the incident commenced last Monday and are being carried out with the assistance of the Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC). According to DWC, Assistant Director in-charge of Wildlife in the North-Western Province has been transferred to Colombo until investigations are concluded.

Eight suspects have been remanded until 12 December in connection with the killing of the Tusker.

Meanwhile, two Grama Niladari Officers arrested for possession of elephant ivory embedded jewellery in Polpithigama - the same area that the carcass of the tusker was discovered, have been remanded until tomorrow.
