Ministry of Sustainable Development and Wildlife Secretary R.M.D.B. Meegasmulla has been transferred to the Ministry of Special Assignments. According to reliable sources, Meegasmulla was removed from his post, at the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Wildlife, over the killing of the blind tusker of Galgamuwa and for delaying action on offences committed against elephants.
When Ceylon Today, contacted Meegasmulla regarding his transfer, he said that he was unaware of such a transfer.

"I am not aware of such a transfer and have not received a letter regarding a transfer from the Ministry," Meegasmulla said. Media Secretary, Sustainable Development and Wildlife Ministry, Pabasari Waleboda when contacted by Ceylon Today, declined to comment. Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife, Gamini Jayawickrema Perera too, was not available for a comment.
The President's Media Division confirmed that Meegasmulla had been transferred to the Ministry of Special Assignments. Douglas Nanayakkara has since been appointed as Meegasmulla's successor.
