The Cabinet of Ministers, recently, approved the proposal to restructure and further develop the Myliddy Port. The proposal was made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as the
Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs.

The Myliddy Port which is situated in Valikamam North in Jaffna had contributed largely to the country's fisheries sector in the 1980s.
One of its specialties was it could be in operation even during the North West monsoon. However its operations declined during the height of the separatist war.

The Myliddy Port began to be made use of only from July this year, despite the war ending over eight years ago.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development has released around 54 acres for the development of the port and the people who were displaced have returned to their former dwellings in the area.
