The Supreme Court (SC) yesterday (15), issued notice on Chairman of the Election Commission (EC) Mahinda Deshapriya to appear in Court on 8 January.
This was in response to the Fundamental Rights petition filed against the delimitation of the Ambagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha by a former Member of the Ambagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha (PS), T.D. Nandaraja, which was considered before a two-Judge SC bench comprising Chief Justice Priyasath Dep and Justice Anil Guneratne.
The petitioner has stated that an injustice has been committed during the demarcation of the said Local Government area.

He has stated that the Ambagamuwa PS being divided into three sections as Norwood, Maskeliya and Ambagamuwa due to the gazette notification of Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Faiszer Musthapha has caused grave injustice to the Buddhists of the area and that such actions could lead to ethnic riots. Musthapha, the Secretary to the Ministry, Chairman of the EC and five others have been named as respondents in the case.
