Chinese envoy says OBOR will take Sino-Lanka ties to new level

Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Yi Xianliang yesterday (15) said that he is confident that after the China-Sri Lanka relations have entered a new fast track under the guidance of the Belt and Road initiative, it will mutually benefit both countries.
The Ambassador who is completing his tenure spending more than two and a half years in Sri Lanka will return to China on 17 December. In his goodbye note, he stated that the relationship between the two countries will be one of inclusive cooperation and would continue to create new wonders for the benefit of the two countries and the two peoples and make important contributions to peace and development in the Indian Ocean region.

President Maithripala Sirisena paid a State visit to China at the beginning of his presidency and held fruitful meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, indicating the direction for the sustained and in-depth development of China-Sri Lanka relations, he noted.
He also stressed that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had successfully made an official visit and work visit to China and attended the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, further promoting the deepening of China-Sri Lanka pragmatic cooperation, and that Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Yu Zhengsheng, too had exchanged visits.
