Oluvil Ports Project Compensation for land soon

Arrangements have been finalized to pay compensation to those whose lands have been acquired for the Oluvil Ports Project.

Compensation would be paid soon, as this has been an outstanding issue for many years, assured Deputy Minister of Health, Faizal Cassim. Following discussions with the Chairman and Directors of the Ports Authority at the Ports Authority Office, Cassim was speaking to owners, whose lands were acquired. Following lengthy discussions the deputy minister held with officials, it was decided to hand over some of the land acquired to the owners and to make payment for the rest of the land in keeping with rules and regulations of the Ports Authority. According to officials, the final stage of the process has been completed. It was also decided to allocate a section of the Oluvil Jetty land to Oluvil Al Jayeesha Maha Vidyalaya playground. Deputy Minister Cassim said that a proposal for a permanent project to prevent sea erosion by using sea sand mining machinery was also handed over.

The feasibility of inviting foreign investors to develop the jetty with modern technology and providing employment opportunities was discussed at length.
