The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has decided to meet with President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe regarding politicians, including Parliamentarians, who make statements that are detrimental to the country and the judiciary.

President of the BASL, President's Counsel Udaya Rohan De Silva said, such statements could result in adverse impacts on the country and also serve as impetus to pro-Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam factions in foreign shores to act on it by using the statements to their advantage.

He pointed out it is the leader of the party to which the particular politician, making the statement, belongs to, who should take the responsibility and also take disciplinary action.
