A group of parents and coaches have criticized the Sri Lanka Table Tennis Association (SLTT) for their failure to distribute a sum of Rs 1.2 million donated by the International Table Tennis Association (ITTA).
Sources said the donation was made by ITTA around five months ago following submissions made by officials of SLTT and was to be specifically distributed to all table tennis players and their schools which were affected during the flood and landslides that were experienced in June last year.

But these parents and coaches have charged that the officials of the SLTT had utilized the sum for various other purposes.
When contacted a spokesman stated that the funds were still in the possession of SLTT and as he cannot comment on it at the moment, a press briefing will be held in due course to clear the air. However, a TT coach told this paper that SLTT was deceiving the parents and coaches having wasted the money given by the ITTA.
When contacted, Acting President of Table Tennis Association Chathura Jayandra said, "Yes, we received the donation, but it was utilized for flood relief work. ITTA donated 10,000 Dollars.

First they released 7,500 dollars. We requested Deniyaya Central College (which was affected by the floods) to submit a quotation but it was not signed by an authorized person. We have rechecked the quotation and now planning to release the funds within the next couple of weeks."
