Causing death by drunken driving Ex-HC Judge allowed bail

Wariyapola Magistrate Srimathee Rajapaksa yesterday (23) enlarged on bail the former High Court Judge, who was charged with causing the death of a woman and injuring her child while driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol to be released on.

Former Judge Wimal S. Nambuwasam was released on bail in two sureties of Rs 200,000 each.

The Wariyapola Magistrate also ordered the driving licence of the former Judge to be impounded for three months.

Furthermore, the suspect had donated a sum of Rs 500,000 on his own volition to the husband of the deceased woman.

The suspect had driven his vehicle under the influence of alcohol on 20 January in the Minuwangeta, area in the Anuradhapura District and from the resultant accident that had taken place, a 35-year-old woman had succumbed to her injuries after being admitted to the hospital, while her 12-year-old daughter had also been hospitalized with injuries.
