CID to grill Aloysius and Palisena for three days

Colombo Fort Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday (12) granted approval to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to obtain statements from Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL) owner Arjun Aloysius and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kasun Palisena within the Welikada Prison premises as they are currently under remand custody.

The Magistrate gave this order having considered a request submitted on behalf of the CID by Sub Inspector Nimal Jayaweera.

The Magistrate issued a written order to the Prisons Superintendent asking him to allow the CID to record the statements from the two suspects today (13), tomorrow (14) and 15 February.

The Magistrate is expected to announce her decision regarding bail for Aloysius and Palisena on 16 February.Aloysius and Palisena were arrested by the CID on 4 February following a complaint lodged by the present Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, to the effect that sensitive details regarding the issuance of Treasury bonds had been released to other parties and a financial misappropriation had been committed.

On 5 February, they were ordered to be further remanded till 16 February by the Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne.
