Farmers are facing difficulties due to the verification process for the pension scheme.

In the annual letter sent to verify whether recipients are alive or not, there is a request for an SMS to be sent to a certain mobile number linked to the Ministry of Agriculture.

Farmers who receive the pension live in rural areas and many of them are over 60 years old and a significant number of them are above 80 years.

For elderly rural people, texting is not a viable option.

Previously, this was done only through a Grama Niladhari's verification. However, in addition to the Grama Niladhari's verification, there is now a new requirement of SMS verification.
