Colombo Fort Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne on 12 February permitted Joint Opposition and Sri Lanka Freedom Party Hambantota District Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa to travel overseas for three months.

The Magistrate made this order having considered a request submitted to the Court by the MP, who sought approval to be away from the country to attend the Commonwealth Parliamentary conference and two youth conferences in Nepal and Russia from 24 February to 18 May.

He was previously not allowed to travel abroad because of a Magisterial inquiry, into the alleged misappropriation of funds amounting to Rs 70 million in the 'Krrish' deal.
