Fags smuggling trio detained at BIA

Three passengers were detained at the Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday (13) for attempting to smuggle in Rs two million worth of cigarette sticks, into the country.

The Sri Lanka Customs reported that the three suspects, one male (42) and two women (41 and 30) were returning from Dubai early yesterday morning. Customs officers upon detecting the illegal stocks arrested the trio at the departure lounge of the Airport.

Accordingly it was noted that the value of the seized 159 cigarette cartons and 462 packets (41,040 sticks), was estimated at
Rs 2.05 million. The suspects are residents of Meerigama and Warakapola.

They were apprehended by the Customs Narcotics Division and the Customs Airport Staff. The suspects were later released with a warning and the confiscation of the illegal goods.
