Journo violated basic ethics

The preliminary inquiries conducted by the government has uncovered that the journalist who was attacked by a Navy official on Saturday had 'violated basic ethical practices when covering sensitive conflict situations'.

... journalist during the protest incident at Hambantota Port on Saturday," Ranga Kalansooriya, Director General of the Government Information Department said.

He added that journalists are expected to adhere to the 'highest standards of ethical practices' when covering conflict situations. "The Navy has told us that the physical presence of its commander at the scene was mandatory as per the requirements of the International Ship and Port Facility (ISPS) code," he said.
